Our midwest beauty, Georgia, is safe and sound in Singapore with Mannequin Models.  Here’s the first test back and she is looking stunning!

Carmen Update

Take a look at this new test Carmen did with photographer Oriana Layendecker. I love the whole feeling of this shoot. That feeling when you can’t tell when the pictures were shot. Sort of vintage but very modern.  Carmen is coming along!  And check out Oriana’s work here. I’m a big fan.

There’s A New Boy In Town

Say hello to Thomas. We are quite fond of him. My new booker (and longtime superfav model) Julia N. showed me pics of him months ago, and I wasn’t convinced.  Then I had the pleasure of meeting him at the VCU RAW fashion show Model Call, and I was convinced… THEN he shot this first and wonderful test with Cristina MacFarlane and now I’m a fan… Funny how that works sometimes.. Be on the lookout for more on Thomas soon.. I think he will be a busy little bee !

PS, major love to Cristina.. When I ask for a “james dean” feel… she sure delivers.

Dominique – some girls just get it.

New face Dominique shot a lovely test with DC photographer Tim Coburn , styled by the exceptionally talented James Cornwell.

I love the sweet simplicity of this shoot. Not overworked and you can see how comfortable and expressive the model is . This is literally her second test.. and she clearly has gotten the hang of it!

Thanks to Tim and James for helping our young ones along!  Great addition to her book!

The Mervine Girls Excellent Adventure

Kim and Amy spent their spring breaks in NY with Click Models this month learning the ropes of the NY modeling world.  After a quick shopping spree at Target for every piece of black clothing we could buy the girls headed up with a smile on their face and books in hand.  They spent the week shooting with different photographers, getting comfortable in front of the lens and getting to know the team at Click.  Take a look at some of the new shots that just came in.. SO gorge!  A big thank you to Jules and all the wonderful people at Click for taking good care of our small town girls!

VCU Fashion Gearing Up For Raw

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending the VCU Fashion Media Night to hear all about the upcoming annual juried fashion show, this year entitled RAW.

Interim Chair Donna Reamy, accompanied by professor Deidra Arrington , introduced us to 3 of the designers we will be seeing on the runway.

Brittany James showed us an amazing menswear look from the Hip Hop segment that included some very hot corduroy jodhpurs.  Krystal Vaquerano a junior at VCU this year, showed us a sweet dressy day  dress she is hoping will be placed in the show after the pieces are juried. And  Jasmine Harrison talked about her harness back cocktail dress, and her fondness for studs (See photo, totally hot)

Take a look at the illustrations some students did this semester (below).  VCU was honored to have members of Diane Von Furstenberg’s team meet with the illustration students for a day long critique of their patterns and sketches. I alway considered fashion sketches high art and these students are doing some amazing work in that arena of fashion design.

Something else I learned is that a great MW client , Charles Luck, who we posted about here, partnered with VCU for the evening wear segment of the show, sponsoring the fabric.  I love that Luckstone, a wonderful  Richmond company, is giving back.

The VCU Annual Juried Fashion Show takes place  Sunday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Louise B. and J. Harwood Cochrane Atrium at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  This show is straight up the best night of fashion in Richmond every year, and it always sells out, so don’t miss out. Tickets go on sale April 2nd .  More info  here.
